We use horses for our cattle work, as we have not found anything better or more time tested. The ability and desire of a horse to interact with cattle and the rugged environment we ranch in never fails to inspire.
Every cow in our herd, and all of our bulls have DNA on file at Genserve Laboratories in Saskatoon. We use this technology to parent verify our replacement females, and also offer it on females that we sell. We use AI quite heavily in our replacement female program.
We rely on EPD and ultrasound information in our bull buying decisions and maintain a bull battery that is second to none. It is our belief that breeding quality to quality is the only way to maintain or advance our program.
We utilize a very rigorous health program that works on the tenet that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We vaccinate our calves with Express and 8-way at branding and follow up with a booster 2 weeks prior to weaning. Our cowherd is on the Express-Verified program. We document all vaccinations in detail, and rarely have to use any antibiotics.
